Did you see that excuse for a football match that was the World Cup Final last night/yesterday/whatever it was in your time zone?
Once Argentina had (literally) fought past England to contest the final against the football purist mastery of Spain, I was not that hopeful of a proper football match breaking out at any stage.
I watched the first half (which is now halved itself with the 'hydration breaks' of course, but we're not getting in to calling them quarters - the US can fuck off on that one), and then avoided the half time show (once again, the US and FIFA and everyone behind organising this travesty can fuck off) by watching the Tour de France highlights I'd recorded instead. That provided all the sporting drama we craved to make up for the lack of it in the football so far.
After resuming watching the football ten minutes into the second half, I was thinking that 0-0 after extra time, and then penalties, were looking inevitable, and I was completely bored by the whole thing.
It seemed to me that Argentina's entire gameplan was 'stop any football being played'.
So I did the unthinkable. I ceded possession of the TV remote to J, during the World Cup Final, and said "I'm bored with this, you watch what you want now."
That was it. Netflix was turned on and an episode of The Last Kingdom was on the telly in around five seconds. I think she was bored with it too.
I'm glad Spain came through against the negativity of Argentina in the end, but they had to have a huge dollop of patience to get there I think. But I can't add too much further in the way of opinion on the game, because I wasn't watching in the end.
I would have switched off immediately after the final whistle anyway. It was bad enough the cameras momentarily showed Trump and Infantino during the game when I was watching, (I don't know Italian, but Infantino looks like 'small child' to me? And we know Trump is one of those too) I didn't need to see them gurning for the cameras pretending they were each single-handedly responsible for the 'success' of this World Cup tournament at the trophy presentation too.
Although hearing them being booed would have been funny.
