10,000 press-ups in a year: the NOT the end of the year yet update

the story so far...

I read this post –
10,000 Pushups And Other Silly Exercise Quests That Changed My Life
by WJ Gilmore

and I decided to try for 10,000 push ups in a year myself.

Previous progress reports:
October 2025
November 2025

December 2025

Having started my challenge to achieve 10,000 press-ups in a calendar year on the completely arbitrary 6th of October, I am not publishing an end-of-year round up post like everyone else, despite us just passing into 2026.

Indeed, with only 23.561643835616% days of the challenge passed, as at December 31st, I am not even close to publishing a half-way report. And as you can see, my calculator is very accurate.

Out of the 365 days of the year allowed for the challenge, I passed 86 of them as 2025 ended. At the bare minimum 28 press-ups per day, I should be on 2408 press-ups done, but as 2025 finally finished, my running totaliser reads 4519. Which gives me the easy calculation of 45.19% of the 10,000 target done.

It seems the 10,000 is within easy reach, but as a person with a chronic illness – and other assorted health issues recently – I learned long ago that I shouldn't assume anything.

The first two weeks of December, for example, I was still suffering with the nosebleed problem, which got in the way of doing much at all. Some days I was only doing 5-10 press-ups before my nose started streaming the red stuff out. I had to stop, try to get it to stop, and then abandon the exercise for the day for fear of popping whatever blood vessel in my hooter was weakened again.

And it didn't take much to start it off during the day afterwards either, with it often deciding to let go and dispense blood over my coat as I was walking the dog. Particularly if it was cold and I had the sniffles in a biting wind. (December = most days with a biting wind.)

In the end it settled down after I'd given it a complete rest, and then only did my abdominal exercises at first, like crunches and leg lifts, that were performed lying on my back. I had an inkling that the face-down press-up position was not helping and gravity was somehow involved in what direction the trickle would go once burst.

I reasoned that if it burst when I was facing upwards, then it would have an easier time clotting and mending, rather than gravity influenced blood immediately trickling out my nostril and dripping off my moustache onto the carpet when facing the floor.

Science. Probably.

Amazingly, it seems to have worked, and I am now back up to normal, non nose-exploding and blood-gushing press-ups.

Anyway, all good now for the moment, and just 5481 to go in the remaining 76.438356164384% of the year.
